Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a statement published on Friday, CAF invited its 54 member associations to submit bids, saying the selection process would follow a transparent, credible and ethical framework aligned with international best practices.
According to the continental football body, the new framework was developed with the support of independent advisory firm PwC, alongside CAF’s technical, financial and external legal advisers, to ensure a fair evaluation and selection of future hosts.
CAF described the Africa Cup of Nations as Africa’s biggest sporting event and one of the world’s most-watched football competitions, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and six billion digital views globally.
While announcing the invitation, CAF did not disclose key details of the bidding process, including submission deadlines, eligibility requirements or technical criteria for prospective hosts.
The governing body also reaffirmed that the 2027 AFCON, officially branded the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
CAF added that it intends to stage a senior men’s national team competition every year except during FIFA World Cup years, as member associations prepare to compete for the right to host three future editions of Africa’s premier football tournament.
