Colombia finished top of Group K at the 2026 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup after holding Portugal to a thrilling 0-0 draw on Saturday, with both teams advancing to the Round of 32.
Despite failing to score, Colombia came closest to breaking the deadlock and had a late effort from Davinson Sánchez ruled out for a marginal offside following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
The result sets up a Round of 32 clash between Colombia and Ghana next Friday, while Portugal, who finished second in the group, will face Croatia on Thursday in a reunion between Cristiano Ronaldo and his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modrić.
Ronaldo endured a quiet outing, with much of the spotlight instead falling on Colombian captain James Rodríguez, who dictated play throughout the contest in his record 11th World Cup appearance for his country.

Colombia threatened early through Jhon Córdoba, who missed a close-range header before forcing Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa into a fine save with a powerful strike.
Rodríguez repeatedly created openings, including a reverse pass that led to Jhon Arias testing Portugal’s defence, while Costa was again called into action to keep out Jefferson Lerma and Arias during a dominant spell from the South Americans.
Portugal created chances of their own, with Bruno Fernandes denied by goalkeeper Camilo Vargas and João Félix heading over from close range. Ronaldo also missed an opportunity after being flagged offside.
Colombia believed they had found a late winner when Sánchez headed home from close range, but the goal was disallowed after VAR confirmed he had strayed offside by the narrowest of margins.
Although disappointed not to claim victory, Colombia celebrated finishing top of the group, while Portugal also secured passage to the knockout stage.
