Delta Police Arrest Five, Recover Guns

The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered four locally made single-barrelled guns, three vehicles, three motorcycles and several items suspected to have been stolen in separate operations across the state.

Police operatives carried out the operations in Orerokpe, Ekpan and Agbor, according to a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe.

In Orerokpe, operatives, working with members of the Civilian Anti-Cult group in Osubi, intercepted two Toyota Sienna vehicles carrying musical equipment along the Warri-Sapele Road on September 19, 2026.

The occupants reportedly fled after sighting the police, but officers arrested a 45-year-old man, Lawrence Onowenakpo.

A search of the vehicles allegedly led to the recovery of three locally made single-barrelled long guns and one live cartridge.

The police said preliminary interrogation led the suspect to identify Ajeh Zephaniah, also known as Fanta, as the alleged gang leader.

According to the Command, further investigation led officers to a scrap yard in Warri, suspected to be the gang’s operational base, where they recovered three motorcycles, 22 air-conditioning units, 13 washing machines, 29 motorcycle and tricycle engines, musical equipment, television sets, a generator, a laptop and other items suspected to have been stolen.

The Command said preliminary investigations had linked the alleged gang to recent armed robberies within the Kwale and Warri areas.

It added that efforts were ongoing to arrest Zephaniah and other fleeing members of the group.

In a separate operation, officers of the Ekpan Division responded to a distress call at about 6:40 p.m. on September 19 concerning a man allegedly threatening people around the Scrap Yard area of Effurun-Sapele Road.

The police arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Meshach Onovoisa, and recovered a locally made single-barrelled gun from him.

The Command said the suspect allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation that he was an armed robber. Investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, officers of the Agbor Division arrested three men identified as Agbaja Promise, 20; Emmanuel Ovieh, 25; and Odiri Dama, 25, all from Benin City, Edo State.

The suspects were arrested while allegedly attempting to sell a Hijet minibus with registration number BEN-485-XH for ₦300,000 without producing the vehicle’s documents.

The police recovered the vehicle and subsequently identified and contacted its rightful owner.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Samuel Erale, commended the officers and members of the public whose cooperation contributed to the operation.

Eralе reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state and urged residents to continue providing the police with timely and credible information.
