The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, has described the death of 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi, who was shot by a police officer, Nuhu Usman, as a “suspected murder.”
Nuhu Usman, a police officer, killed Ogidi on April 26, 2026, when operatives of the Effurun Area Command responded to credible information from Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway after the musician was apprehended by members of a transport union while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
A video of Ogidi’s extrajudicial killing has gone viral on social media and triggered outrage among Nigerians demanding justice.
However, the Delta Police spokesperson described his death as a “suspected murder” in a post shared on X on Friday, adding that an autopsy would be required to confirm the cause of death.

Ogidi’s mother had, in an interview with News Central, appealed to Nigerians and the government to ensure those responsible for his death are brought to justice.
“Nigerians, please help me. Help me avenge my son’s death. I am a poor widow. Bring the perpetrators to book. Please don’t leave me like this,” she told News Central.
