Eswatini’s Home Affairs Minister and sister of King Mswati III, Princess Lindiwe, has reportedly died after a battle with cancer.
Senior members of the Eswatini royal family confirmed her death on Wednesday afternoon, according to Swaziland News.
The development comes days after reports that Princess Lindiwe had been urgently admitted to a hospital in South Africa in critical condition, where she was reportedly receiving treatment for cancer.
Princess Lindiwe has served as Eswatini’s Home Affairs Minister since 2018 and was reappointed in 2023. She is also a member of the country’s House of Assembly.
As Home Affairs Minister, she has overseen matters including immigration, citizenship, refugees and the registration of births, marriages and deaths.
However, the Eswatini Government had yet to issue an official statement confirming her death at the time of publication.
Princess Lindiwe was a daughter of the late King Sobhuza II and a sister of King Mswati III, who has ruled Eswatini since 1986.
She started her career in 1985 as an Administration Assistant at the Eswatini National Administration Office.
Princess Lindiwe earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Akron in the United States, along with an Associate degree in Hotel Management from Vincennes University in the same country.
In 2008, His Majesty King Mswati III appointed Princess Lindiwe to Liqoqo, a traditional advisory council to His Majesty.
