Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking his latest political move after years of involvement in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Lawal was formally received into the party by NDC National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside members of the National Working Committee (NWC), who represented the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The former SGF’s entry into the party was announced during a ceremony attended by senior party officials and supporters. His membership is expected to strengthen the NDC’s growing political structure as it prepares for future electoral engagements.

Lawal, who previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has remained active in national political discussions since leaving office.
His move to the NDC comes as political parties continue efforts to expand their membership base and attract prominent figures ahead of the next general election cycle.
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, welcomed Lawal into the party, calling the move a significant addition to the NDC.

The party leadership said Lawal’s experience in governance and public service would contribute to its efforts to build a broader political platform.
Lawal’s political career has included roles within the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he served as a key figure before leaving the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he also exited three months ago after resigning over alleged manipulation of its presidential primaries.
The NDC has continued to position itself as a platform focused on political participation and reforms, with Obi and Kwankwaso leading its presidential ticket.
