Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku defended recent airport e-hailing restrictions on Friday, citing widespread passenger complaints about driver misconduct and exploitation.
Speaking to reporters following Uber’s reported exit from Nigeria, Kuku disclosed that travellers experienced severe issues during the December 2025 holiday period, including fare gouging, intimidation, and unauthorised drop-offs.
She explained that drivers from platforms like Uber and Bolt frequently exploited the system by abandoning their apps inside airport grounds to operate as illegal touts, charging inflated rates.
FAAN introduced the Airport Car Hire and Ride Management System (ACHRAMS) app to track verified drivers, improve passenger safety, and curb illegal touting across airport terminals.
Kuku rejected claims that FAAN restricted existing e-hailing operators merely to promote its own platform, emphasising that the agency only regulates driver access to protect travellers.

She added that Uber’s decision to leave the Nigerian market stemmed from the company’s internal business and regulatory strategy, rather than airport authority policies.
