Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has again alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, intensifying political tensions in the state despite repeated denials from both the government and the palace.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Fayose urged sceptics to “keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events,” insisting that recent allegations against the monarch were part of a calculated effort to justify his removal. According to him, earlier denials of any rift between the governor and the Olubadan were misleading.
“They denied any rift between Olubadan and Makinde after I made the same public. But now, they are accusing the Olubadan of plotting to impeach Governor Makinde,” Fayose said. He further described claims portraying the monarch as partisan as “parts of the orchestration to prepare grounds for the Olubadan to be queried.”
The controversy has emerged alongside separate political developments within the Oyo State House of Assembly. The Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, has publicly distanced himself from alleged plans by some lawmakers to impeach the governor.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page, Oyekola said he was neither consulted nor involved in any such arrangement, stressing his commitment to stability in the state.
“I hereby completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State,” he said, reaffirming his loyalty to the governor and his dedication to the state’s “peace, unity, and continued progress.”
Fayose’s latest remarks follow earlier claims that Makinde was planning to depose the Olubadan, allegations that have been firmly rejected.
A media aide to the monarch dismissed reports of any friction, noting there was no visible cause for conflict between the palace and the government. Similarly, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, described the allegations as baseless, stating the government had “never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.”
He added that political actors should be cautious of misinformation, arguing that “desperate politics foists thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy into a joke.”
