The body of Ugandan King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest reigning monarch, arrived in Uganda on Friday after his death in the United States at age 34.
President Yoweri Museveni received the king’s casket in a formal military parade at the airport in Entebbe, where mourners also gathered to pay their respects.
King Oyo, who became ruler of the Tooro Kingdom at the age of three, reigned for 31 years before he died last week while receiving medical treatment in the United States.
Although Uganda operates as a republic, the government officially recognises traditional kingdoms, which largely function as cultural institutions and have limited political authority.
Oyo inherited the Tooro throne following the death of his father, who died from a heart attack in 1995. However, he was formally crowned when he turned 18.
He will be buried on September 12.
