Outgoing US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard used her final hours in office to launch one of the most explosive parting shots in recent American political history, declassifying a tranche of documents she says expose former top government scientist Dr Anthony Fauci as a key architect of the COVID-19 cover-up.
“Today, on my final day as Director of National Intelligence, I’m releasing never-before-seen communications and documents exposing how Dr. Fauci provided millions in US taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, worked with politicized elements within the Intelligence Community to suppress the truth about his actions and hide the virus’ lab-leak origins, and lied to Congress while under oath in 2024. It’s time you know the truth,” Gabbard declared Thursday.
The allegations are sweeping. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) alleged that Fauci, while heading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), directed millions of dollars in US taxpayer funding toward gain-of-function research involving bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The ODNI further claimed the research is now widely regarded as the probable source of the unintentional lab leak that triggered the global pandemic, a catastrophe that killed millions and reshaped the world economy.

Beyond the funding allegations, Gabbard’s office accused Fauci of working with politicised elements within the intelligence community to shape and suppress official assessments of the origin of COVID-19. The documents, she says, show that this was not passive negligence but active coordination.
The perjury allegation is perhaps the most legally significant charge. If substantiated, Fauci’s 2024 congressional testimony under oath would constitute a federal crime.
Fauci has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that the research his agency funded did not constitute dangerous gain-of-function work under applicable definitions. His supporters argue the disclosures are politically motivated, timed to coincide with Gabbard’s departure from a Trump-era administration.
Regardless of what independent review ultimately confirms, the release has reignited one of the most contentious debates of the post-pandemic era and ensured Gabbard exits Washington with maximum noise.
