Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said on Friday that his economic reforms act as a “difficult but necessary surgery” required to rescue the nation from total collapse.
Speaking through House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the president directly addressed the country’s severe financial crisis during the commissioning of new access roads in the Wasa district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tinubu acknowledged that the policies inflict heavy pain on households and businesses but promised that the sacrifices would ultimately yield an unshakeable, prosperous future, insisting that his administration did not make these aggressive fiscal decisions lightly.
He explained that workers are currently tearing down the broken financial structures of the past to build a sustainable economic foundation.
“The economic reforms we have initiated are undoubtedly painful. I promise you that your sacrifices will not be in vain.”

Emphasising that no great nation emerges overnight through easy, short-term fixes, Tinubu urged artisans, youth, elders, and all citizens nationwide to remain resilient and trust the transition process.

“I carry the weight of your daily struggles. The economic reforms we have initiated are undoubtedly painful, and their immediate impact has been heavy on households and businesses alike,” the president said.
To address immediate hardships, the Nigerian government is rolling out targeted social intervention programmes and funding large-scale agricultural projects to ensure food security.
The administration also intends to spur job creation through major infrastructure projects, such as the newly opened Wasa roads.
Tinubu vowed that his government will not rest until the tangible benefits of these painful reforms reach every single Nigerian home.
