Smoke rises from the site of an Israeli airstrike that targeted the village of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in southern Lebanon on May 19, 2026. The Lebanese president said on May 18 he was ready to "do the impossible" to stop the war with Israel, as the health ministry said Israeli strikes have killed more than 3,000 people. Since the start of the ceasefire on April 17, Israel has continued to launch strikes, carry out demolitions and issue evacuation orders in south Lebanon, saying it is targeting the Iran-backed armed group. Hezbollah has said  that its fighters engaged Israeli troops in southern Lebanon despite a truce in place between both sides.

According to the group, its fighters “clashed.. with a force of the Israeli enemy army that tried to advance towards the vicinity of the town square of Haddatha,” adding that “the clashes are still ongoing”.

Hezbollah said the confrontation took place in a border area that has remained highly volatile despite repeated diplomatic efforts to sustain a ceasefire arrangement between the two sides.
It however did not provide further details, such as casualty figures or the exact duration of the engagement, but emphasised that its fighters were actively engaged in the hostilities.
The group framed the incident as a defensive response to an attempted advance by Israeli forces into the area surrounding Haddatha, a locality in southern Lebanon that has experienced recurring tensions during periods of heightened hostilities.

Hezbollah also pointed to what it described as renewed hostilities along the border region, suggesting that the situation on the ground remains unstable despite the existence of a truce framework intended to reduce military confrontation.

The area has long been a flashpoint, with intermittent exchanges of fire and cross-border incidents contributing to persistent insecurity for residents in surrounding communities.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the Israeli military regarding the incident.
