US artificial intelligence firm OpenAI announced on Friday that its artificial intelligence platforms have officially surpassed one billion active users, achieving the milestone less than four years after launching ChatGPT.

The company confirmed that its tools now serve over one billion active users and two million corporate clients as individuals and businesses integrate AI deeper into their routines.

While OpenAI previously expected to hit this mark earlier in the year after reaching 900 million weekly users in February, fierce rivalry from competing developers slightly slowed its growth.

The new figure encompasses OpenAI’s full suite of products, including ChatGPT, the coding tool Codex, and its enterprise platform ChatGPT Work.

Corporate adoption became a major focus for the San Francisco startup in late 2025 as it moved to capture business market share from rival Anthropic.

At the same time, the rapid rise of autonomous AI agents has driven up computing demands and operational costs, leading many developers toward cheaper open-source options.

To maintain its competitive edge against low-cost international models, OpenAI has drastically lowered prices for its lightweight technology.

Earlier this month, the company introduced three tiers of its GPT-5.6 model, including an affordable version named Luna.

On Thursday, OpenAI slashed Luna’s price by an additional 80 per cent, positioning its entry-level offering as one of the most cost-effective advanced models on the global market.
