A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the Lagos State governorship race.
Adediran announced his withdrawal while addressing the media, party leaders of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, and his supporters at Liberty House, Adeniyi Jones Secretariat in Ikeja on Thursday.
His withdrawal comes less than 24 hours after he purchased the APC’s expression of interest and nomination forms to challenge Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.
“Within hours after I purchased my nomination forms, there were developments, including a meeting involving the President and the Deputy Governor. It was subsequently made known that the President had endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat,” said Adediran.

“Based on my earlier position that I will align with the direction of the President, I have decided to withdraw from the race,” he said.

Adediran was a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State.
Hamzat has been endorsed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as his successor and by the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), widely regarded as the highest decision-making advisory body within the Lagos State chapter of the APC, as the preferred choice for the state’s 2027 governorship election. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has also endorsed Hamzat for the race.

At present, only Samuel Ajose, another APC Lagos governorship aspirant, remains Hamzat’s contender in the race.
Ajose has accused Hamzat of imposing a consensus on party members, claiming the deputy governor is afraid of contesting in the primary election. He also dismissed claims that he endorsed Hamzat and his support for the GAC’s decision.
