Lagos Declares May 16 Boy Child Day

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has designated May 16 as Lagos Boy Child Day while launching a full review of the state’s 2015 Child Rights Law.

Announced at a multi-stakeholder summit in Lagos on Tuesday, the initiative aims to strengthen legal safeguards for boys and tackle modern threats such as digital exploitation, online violence, and evolving social risks.

The First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, spearheaded the campaign to address critical gaps in boy-child protection without diluting established support for girls.

Stressing that balanced investment creates safer communities, she stated, “True gender equality is achieved not by competing interests but by ensuring that every child, girl or boy, is allowed to realise his or her God-given potential.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged full state backing to embed these reforms permanently into Lagos policy and law.
