Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish has revealed he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The 75-year-old former forward, widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest players, issued a statement on Tuesday following an inadvertent social media post that revealed his health condition.
“As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer,” Dalglish said.
“Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well. Ideally this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand. Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.”
Liverpool FC expressed their support, saying, “Our support and love is with you, Sir Kenny”

Dalglish’s announcement comes just a day after Liverpool star Kevin Keegan revealed he is battling stage four cancer.
Dalglish, who was signed from Celtic in 1977 to replace Keegan, won six English league titles and three European Cups with Liverpool. Nicknamed “King Kenny” by supporters, he also guided Liverpool as player-manager to the English title and FA Cup in his first season, later securing additional domestic honours.
He is remembered for his leadership during the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989, a period that profoundly influenced his decision to step down as manager in 1991.
Dalglish returned to management with Blackburn Rovers, leading them to the Premier League crown in 1995, and later returned to Liverpool before leaving in 2012. Today, he remains a constant presence at Anfield, with a stand named in his honour since 2018.
