Madonna, Carpenter Win MTV VMA Award

Famous American pop singers Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter have won the best collaboration award, while Blackpink’s Lisa took home best pop video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The annual ceremony began on Sunday in downtown Los Angeles, with the awards recognising some of music’s biggest names.

Madonna and Carpenter won the collaboration award for their song “Bring Your Love”, which they also performed during the opening of the ceremony. The pair delivered a high-energy performance that drew cheers from the crowd.

Madonna, who received the most nominations at this year’s ceremony, praised Carpenter after their win. She said their working styles complemented each other.

“When I show up late, she shows up early,” Madonna said.

She also noted that both artists share the old-school habit of writing lyrics on pieces of paper.

“It’s been wonderful working with you, and I love this song,” Madonna added.

Meanwhile, Lisa, a member of Blackpink, won the award for best pop video for her solo song “Dream.” The K-pop star appeared on stage in a black outfit with large white fringe sleeves before thanking her fans through tears.

Lisa referred to her supporters, known as Lillies, as she accepted the VMA Moon Person trophy.

“I wouldn’t be here without you guys,” she said. “Thank you so much for your love and support.”

Taylor Swift also attended the ceremony and was scheduled to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honours. Swift has directed several of her music videos, including “The Fate of Ophelia” and “All Too Well.”

Her new single, “Patient Zero,” was also scheduled to debut during the VMAs broadcast.

Madonna, Carpenter and Swift were competing for the ceremony’s top prize, Video of the Year.

Madonna was nominated for “Confessions II – The Film,” Carpenter for “Tears,” and Swift for “Ophelia.”

Fans decide the winners in the top categories through voting. The ceremony was broadcast live on CBS and MTV and streamed on Paramount+.
