Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu and captain Rasheedat Ajibade have warned Nigeria against underestimating their opponents, Cameroon, ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash.
Madugu said the team expects a tough contest, noting that their opponents have studied Nigeria’s previous matches and will come prepared.
“They have watched all our games. We see what everybody does, so just as you are asking me what I know as their strength, they are also trying to know what is our strength and our weakness,” Madugu said.
The coach explained that studying opponents is a normal part of football, with both teams expected to look for ways to exploit weaknesses.
Ajibade also described the match as a major test, warning that Nigeria should be ready for a physical and mentally demanding encounter.
“It’s going to be a very tough one. It’s going to be physical, mentally and emotionally. Everywhere you can expect it, it’s going to be tough,” the captain said.
Despite the challenge, the midfielder said the Super Falcons are well prepared and confident in their ability to compete.
“But we are ready for this, and we are prepared for this. For us as Super Falcons, we know our standard, we know our level,” she added.
Ajibade urged her teammates to remain calm and focus on their own performance rather than the pressure surrounding the game.
“We just focus on our game and take one step at a time,” she said.
With both sides expected to arrive well prepared, the Super Falcons will be looking to maintain their focus and avoid any lapse in concentration when the action begins.
