Muchova Edges Gauff to Reach Maiden Wimbledon Final

Karolina Muchova has reached her first Wimbledon final after surviving a dramatic three-set battle against Coco Gauff in a thrilling semi-final clash on Centre Court.

The Czech 10th seed overcame a match point and held her composure in a tense final-set tie-break to defeat the seventh-seeded American 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12/10) after two hours and 35 minutes of intense competition.

Muchova will now face either Czech ninth seed Linda Noskova or Ukrainian 12th seed Marta Kostyuk in the final as she bids for her first Grand Slam title.

The victory marks Muchova’s second appearance in a major final, following her runner-up finish at the 2023 French Open. It also represents a remarkable turnaround at Wimbledon, where she had previously struggled, losing in the opening round in each of her four previous appearances.

“It sounds really nice to be in the final. It was such a big fight. You are up and down, no time to think but it was very nerve-wracking,” Muchova said after the match.

The 29-year-old entered the tournament with a history of injury setbacks, having dealt with problems affecting her wrists, abdomen, back, thigh, ankle and foot. At one point in 2022, doctors advised her to consider ending her tennis career, while wrist surgery kept her sidelined for 10 months across 2023 and 2024.

However, Muchova has returned to full fitness and is now one victory away from claiming her first Grand Slam trophy.

Against Gauff, Muchova made the most of the American’s serving struggles, breaking twice in the opening set before sealing it with an ace. Gauff responded strongly in the second set, improving her serve and aggression to level the match.

The deciding set became a tense contest, with both players saving break points as pressure mounted. Muchova appeared to struggle physically but maintained her focus, extending her perfect tie-break record this year.

After saving a match point and surviving a tense exchange late in the tie-break, Muchova produced the decisive moments to complete one of the biggest wins of her career and book her place in the Wimbledon final.
