The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against two banned alcoholic energy drinks seized by Ghanaian authorities, urging importers, distributors and consumers to keep the products out of the Nigerian market.

The warning was contained in Public Alert No. 032/2026, published on the agency’s official X account on Friday.

According to NAFDAC, the alert followed a notification from the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority, which confiscated about 140 boxes of the products during a regulatory enforcement exercise in Ghana’s Upper East Region.

The affected products are Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix.

NAFDAC said the drinks were confiscated because of concerns over their safety and regulatory status, noting that they had previously been prohibited from sale and distribution due to the health risks linked to combining alcohol with stimulant ingredients commonly found in energy drinks.

The agency warned that such beverages could conceal the effects of alcohol intoxication, causing consumers to underestimate their level of impairment.

It added that young adults and adolescents are particularly at risk of excessive alcohol consumption, poor judgment, impaired coordination, cardiovascular complications, dehydration, sleep disturbances, and alcohol-related injuries or accidents.

NAFDAC advised importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and consumers to ensure the affected products are neither imported nor sold in Nigeria.

The agency also urged beverage dealers to verify that products in circulation comply with its registration and regulatory requirements.

Members of the public were encouraged to report any sighting of the products or adverse reactions linked to their consumption to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency’s e-reporting platforms.
