Italian Serie A runners-up Napoli confirmed on Thursday that coach Antonio Conte will leave the club after two years, with former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri heavily tipped to replace him.

The club released a statement announcing that they reached an agreement with Conte and his staff to part ways before their contracts naturally expired.

Napoli thanked the coach and his backroom team for their excellent work and wished them success in their future career challenges.

The 56-year-old Conte, who guided Napoli to the Serie A title during the 2024/25 campaign, has emerged as the widespread favourite to take over as the head coach of the Italy national team.

The former Italy international previously managed the national squad between 2014 and 2016, leading them to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals before losing to Germany on penalties.

AC Milan recently sacked Allegri after the club failed to qualify for the upcoming season’s Champions League.
