The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered 43,980 capsules of tramadol concealed inside two large vehicle fuel tanks, thwarting what it described as a sophisticated drug trafficking operation.
The agency disclosed the seizure in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect allegedly travelled to Onitsha in Anambra State to purchase the fuel tanks solely for the purpose of hiding and transporting the illicit drugs, rather than for use in a vehicle or commercial sale.
The agency said the suspect was able to move the concealed consignment through multiple security checkpoints from Anambra State before he was arrested by NDLEA operatives in the Wukari area of Taraba State.

Babafemi said officers uncovered 43,980 capsules of tramadol carefully packed inside the fuel tanks during the operation, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
He described the suspect as a drug trafficker who had devised an elaborate concealment method to evade detection but was eventually apprehended.
“So a merchant of death travelled to Onitsha, Anambra State, to buy the two big vehicle fuel tanks in this video not to sell or use in his vehicle but solely for the purpose of concealing illicit drugs.
“With 43,980 capsules of tramadol neatly stuffed in the fuel tanks he was able to beat security checks all the way from Anambra up to Wukari area of Taraba State where he was eventually arrested by #ndlea_nigeria officers who uncovered his lid,” the statement said.
The NDLEA did not disclose the identity of the suspect or provide further details about the ongoing investigation.
