Nigeria has secured host-country approval for 97 percent of its newly appointed ambassadors, with only two nations yet to confirm acceptance, the foreign ministry said on Saturday.
A total of 69 ambassadors-designate were assigned to various countries following their screening and confirmation by the Senate, the ministry said in a statement.
Of this number, 65 have received agrément – the formal acceptance of a diplomatic appointee by a host nation.
Two of the ambassadors-designate did not proceed: one declined the offer, and another died in April 2026, according to the ministry.
“Accordingly, there are only two countries from which the ministry is yet to receive confirmation of agrément. However, assurances have been received from both friendly countries that their consent will be conveyed in due course,” the statement said.

The ministry said it was engaging the authorities in the two outstanding countries and remained confident the remaining agréments would be received shortly.
“The majority of Nigeria’s Ambassadors have already arrived in their respective host countries and have presented their Letters of Credence,” the statement added.
The ministry said it remained committed to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad in furtherance of the nation’s foreign policy objectives.
