Veteran actress Kate Henshaw has called for free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria, saying citizens deserve the right to choose their leaders without interference.
Speaking on Thursday at NewsCentral TV’s A Place at the Table (APATT) programme themed “A Rigged System: Is the System Designed to Fail?”, Henshaw expressed concern over Nigeria’s electoral process and the impact of poor leadership on citizens.
“Nigerians yearn for a free and fair election. We must have it, else we’ll keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result,” she said.

Henshaw argued that many Nigerians feel trapped in a political system that limits their choices at the polls.
“Nigerians deserve to choose their leaders by themselves,” she stated, adding that the system often leaves voters with little control over who eventually emerges as leaders.
The actress also criticised instances where election outcomes are challenged and overturned, saying such developments weaken public confidence in the democratic process.
According to her, good leadership remains critical to improving the country’s economy, security and overall welfare.
“Nigerians deserve good leadership because that will transform everything about our lives, our businesses, our economy and our welfare,” she said.

The actress further lamented the country’s security challenges, noting that kidnappings and violence remain major concerns.
She recalled being a victim of election-related violence during a previous election in her local government area and urged authorities to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
“We need to make sure that the votes of the people count. If not, the government is definitely not for the people,” Henshaw added.
She concluded by calling for reforms to strengthen public trust in elections and ensure the will of the people is respected.
