The Oyo State Police Command on Saturday dismissed rumours of a curfew in the state, assuring residents that there were no movement restrictions within or outside Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a statement issued in Ibadan that there were no security threats requiring panic among residents.
Checks showed that many residents hurriedly closed their shops and businesses following reports of an alleged 8 pm curfew.
The anxiety followed the recent abduction of teachers and pupils during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters,” the statement said.
The police added that adequate security measures had been put in place, with officers strategically deployed across the state to safeguard lives and property.
The command also warned individuals against spreading false or unverified information capable of causing panic and fear among residents, stressing that offenders would face legal action.
It advised the public to ignore the rumours and continue their lawful activities without fear.
According to the police, any official security directive or emergency measure would be communicated through verified channels operated by the command.
Residents were further urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and public order across the state.
