Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that his administration will not surrender to terror following the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Makinde made the statement in Ibadan on Monday while speaking to journalists, insisting that the state will not be intimidated.
He said the government will take all necessary lawful steps to secure the safe release of the abducted victims.
He said: “We will not give in to terror. We will do everything possible to ensure that our children and their teachers are returned safely.”
The governor added that the state is open to dialogue on demands from the abductors where necessary, but insisted that the victims must be released immediately.

He spoke after a high-level security meeting with service commanders and security advisers over Friday’s attack on Ahoro Esinle community in Oriire LGA.
Makinde described the situation as “fluid and difficult” but said security agencies are conducting coordinated rescue operations.
He urged residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activity, saying: “If you see something strange, say something, and expect us to do something.”
The governor also reflected on Nigeria’s worsening security situation, lamenting the loss of communal trust and responsibility.
He disclosed that a state surveillance aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and was being assembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.
He said the aircraft would become operational by the end of June and would strengthen surveillance along border areas, including Oyo-Kwara and the boundary with the Republic of Benin.
Makinde added that the surveillance project was initiated before the current abductions as part of efforts to improve security in the state.
Meanwhile, teachers in Ogbomoso staged a protest demanding improved school security and the immediate release of abducted colleagues and students.
