Pogacar Ends Season After Vuelta Crash

Five-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar ended his racing season early after undergoing surgery on a fractured collarbone following a severe crash at the Vuelta a España.

The accident occurred during stage eight while the Slovenian star held a dominant lead of nearly four minutes, shattering his bid to complete a career sweep of all three Grand Tours.

Pogacar also suffered a concussion, a cervical fracture, and multiple contusions, which will force him to miss the upcoming world championships in Montreal and October’s Giro di Lombardia.

Team doctors and management emphasised that Pogacar’s recovery remains their sole priority and ruled out any rushed return to competition this year.

Despite the setback, Pogacar reflected positively on his historic season—which included joining an elite group of five-time Tour winners in July—and confirmed he signed a long-term contract extension with UAE Team Emirates through 2032.
