The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a civilian by police officers in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, involving personnel attached to the Ohaukwu Police Division, reportedly occurred on Monday. Images from the incident were shared online, drawing public attention.

Ebonyi Police Command spokesperson Joshua Ukandu, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the officers involved had been identified and were currently in detention.

He said that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Hope Okafor, ordered the immediate transfer of the officers to the Command Headquarters.

The police assured members of the public that officers would face appropriate disciplinary action based on the investigation’s outcome, adding that the process would be conducted transparently and without bias.

The command also expressed sympathy to the victim, who is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA).
