Kenyan President William Ruto is attending the 25th Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Ruto is expected to hand over the bloc’s chairmanship to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, marking the end of Kenya’s tenure leading the regional organisation.
The summit brings together leaders of COMESA’s 21 member states to discuss trade, investment, industrialisation and deeper economic integration.
The meeting is being held under the theme “One Market, One Future: Advancing Inclusive Industrialisation, Investment and Regional Integration in COMESA.”

The agenda includes strengthening regional trade, promoting local processing of Africa’s natural resources, improving economic cooperation and advancing implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.
The programme also includes the scheduled launch of COMESA’s Medium-Term Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2030 and the presentation of its 2025 annual report.
The four-day programme, which began on October 19, ends on October 22.

COMESA is a regional economic community comprising 21 member states that promotes trade, investment and economic cooperation across Eastern and Southern Africa.
