Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has confirmed the rescue of all seven victims abducted during a recent attack involving students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, describing the operation as the result of coordinated security efforts.
In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, Abiodun said the successful rescue reflects the state’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring criminals are brought to justice.
“The safety and security of our people remain the foundation upon which our vision for a prosperous Ogun State rests. Without security, our people cannot live, work, invest, and pursue their aspirations with confidence,” the governor said.
He expressed gratitude over the outcome of the operation, announcing that all those kidnapped had regained their freedom.
“It is therefore with a deep sense of gratitude to Almighty God that we confirm the successful rescue of all seven victims abducted in the recent incident involving students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade.”
Abiodun attributed the rescue to collaboration among security agencies and the deployment of both aerial and ground operations.
The governor commended security personnel and members of the affected communities who contributed to the operation.
“We commend the courage and professionalism of all the security personnel involved, as well as our traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilantes, local hunters, and residents who supported the operation with useful intelligence.”
Abiodun said security operations were continuing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction and dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public safety, the governor warned criminal elements against operating in the state.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to strengthening Ogun State’s security architecture. Our message to criminal elements is unequivocal: there will be no safe haven for criminality anywhere in Ogun State.”
He added, “Together, we will continue to protect our people, preserve the peace of our communities, and sustain Ogun State as a safe destination for residents, visitors, businesses, and investors.”
The seven victims were abducted during an attack involving students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, prompting a large-scale security response by state and federal security agencies.
The abduction heightened concerns over the growing threat of kidnappings targeting educational institutions and commuters in parts of southwest Nigeria.
