Seven people have reportedly died in a road crash in Jigawa State, while the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area sustained injuries.

According to Punch, the fatal crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Monday along the Malam Madori–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State.

An eyewitness said a Toyota Starlet, driven by Adamu Dakido, was conveying passengers from Hadejia to Malam Madori when it collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz GLK.

“The GLK was carrying the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area and his driver, who were travelling from Gumel to Kafin Hausa at the time of the crash,” the source said.

Another source said all six occupants of the Toyota Starlet died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

The Chairman of Kafin Hausa LGA survived the crash but sustained varying degrees of injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

A police patrol team were deployed to the scene and evacuated the injured chairman and the corpses to the General Hospital in Hadejia.

Attempts to reach the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, for official confirmation on Tuesday were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered.

However, a source within the state police command confirmed that the accident occurred and that investigations had commenced.

“The police have commenced an investigation into the cause of the accident. Our officers were on the ground to evacuate the victims and secure the scene,” the police source said.
