Following in the footsteps of legendary performances by Madonna and Lady Gaga, Shakira is prepared to take the stage at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach this Saturday for her largest concert ever.
The free event is expected to attract an audience of two million people, turning the shoreline into a massive celebration of Latin pop.
This follows Madonna’s 2024 show, which drew 1.6 million attendees, and Lady Gaga’s record-breaking performance last year that saw a crowd of 2.1 million.
The 49-year-old Colombian superstar, a four-time Grammy winner with over 90 million records sold, described Copacabana as a unique “altar” for the world in a letter to the local press.
Fans have already dubbed the area “Lobacabana” in reference to her hit “She Wolf,” and social media has been flooded with videos of crowds practising the choreography to her 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka.”

The show is scheduled to run from 9:45 pm until midnight.
To manage the unprecedented scale of the event, city authorities have launched a massive security operation involving nearly 8,000 officers, facial recognition technology, and metal detectors.
This heightened vigilance follows a thwarted bomb plot during Lady Gaga’s 2025 concert.
Economically, the gig is a major win for Rio, with city hall predicting an 800 million real ($160 million) boost to the local economy as flight bookings surge across the Americas.
