Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has vowed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will not relent until it transforms the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) into a capital city befitting Nigeria.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of projects in the FCT as part of a 31-day commissioning programme, Shettima said infrastructure remains a key measure by which any civilised nation demonstrates its seriousness.

According to the Vice President, no capital can carry the weight of national ambition if its arteries are blocked by neglect, excuses, and abandoned promises. He said this is why the Tinubu administration will continue to transform the FCT.

“This is why we will never rest until we have made the Federal Capital Territory not only a functional seat of government but a capital worthy of our federation, our growing population, and the dreams that brought Abuja into being,” Shettima said.

“This day is another assurance of our promise to build a city powered by our demographic expansion and national ambition. However, as we celebrate, let us remember that development is a partnership. Government provides infrastructure.”

He also urged citizens and residents of the FCT to fulfil their civic obligations by paying taxes and ground rent and called for greater compliance.

Shettima further called on traditional leaders in the capital to help safeguard public infrastructure, including streetlights, roads, and drainage systems, and to discourage vandalism of government assets.
