Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested six suspects, including three teenagers, during a raid on a store allegedly used for the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, including a 15-year-old girl whose identity was withheld, were arrested by operatives of the Department of Operations during a routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said in a statement issued on Thursday that the operatives acted on credible intelligence before raiding the suspected drug outlet.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Anabel Haruna, 19-year-old Terhemen Faith, 23-year-old Kaityo Abigail, 26-year-old Iorkee Eunice, 31-year-old Osomuri Emmanuel, and a 15-year-old female juvenile.
Edafe said a subsequent search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances.
“The suspects and exhibits are in custody, while investigation is ongoing,” he said.
The arrests followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, for intensified action against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs across the state.
Eralе warned that the command would continue to identify and dismantle drug distribution networks operating in Delta State.
He said the proliferation of illicit drugs fuels violent crime and other forms of criminality.
The commissioner also directed police operatives across the state to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement against drug dealers and their networks.
“Delta State will not be allowed to become a safe haven for illicit drug trade or any form of criminal enterprise,” Erale said.
The command said the investigation was ongoing.
