Tinubu Mourns Veteran Journalist Lekan Alabi

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist, public relations practitioner and Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who died on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76.

The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu described the late Alabi as an accomplished journalist, respected public relations expert and cultural icon whose contributions to public service and the promotion of Yoruba culture left a lasting impact.

“Oloye Alabi was a consummate journalist and public relations expert who had a distinguished public service career. He had the rare privilege of serving four former governors of Oyo State with distinction as Press Secretary,” the President said.

Tinubu also praised Alabi’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, saying his appearance, conduct and character reflected his passion for tradition.

“Besides being a veteran journalist and renowned public relations practitioner, he was also a cultural icon. His appearance, conduct and character spoke volumes about his passion for culture and tradition.

“He was also the Cultural Ambassador of the Source in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Oloye Alabi was particularly close to the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja,” he added.

The President extended his condolences to Alabi’s family, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the veteran journalist’s death as a great loss.

Tinubu also prayed for the peaceful repose of Alabi’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.

According to the President, the late journalist will be buried on Sunday in Ibadan in line with Islamic rites.
