Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to secure the safe return of schoolchildren and other citizens abducted by bandits across the country.
Governor Abiodun made these remarks on Friday during his speech at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode.
Expressing deep solidarity with the victims of insecurity, the governor urged citizens to pray for everyone affected by the recent wave of violent attacks and mass kidnappings nationwide.
Public anxiety has mounted following coordinated bandit attacks on May 15 that targeted schools in both Oyo and Borno states.
In Oyo State, heavily gunmen invaded communities in the Oriire Local Government Area, storming Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele.
The bandits abducted a school principal, multiple teachers, and dozens of pupils while shooting two teachers dead.
The attack triggered massive protests in Ogbomoso, prompting local teachers to suspend classroom activities and march peacefully to demand urgent rescue operations.
On that same day, suspected bandits also abducted pupils from two schools in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers fiercely condemned these assaults as barbaric, warning that widespread fear and trauma might force educators nationwide to withdraw their services.
In response, President Tinubu condemned the incidents and ordered security forces to strengthen coordinated rescue operations.
The President also pledged to deepen the Safe Schools framework to protect vulnerable communities and urged the National Assembly to fast-track the establishment of state police.
