Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 13 kidnap victims during separate intelligence-led operations in Zamfara State, the military said on Wednesday.

In the first operation, troops of Sector 2 in Bagega responded to credible intelligence about armed terrorists on motorcycles moving towards Tungan Kudaduku in the Anka Local Government Area, according to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the operation.

“Guided by real-time surveillance, the troops pursued and engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee,” Danja said.

A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp, where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed, according to Danja.

In a separate operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops acted on intelligence of terrorist activity in the area.

“On contact, they engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon their captives,” Danja noted.

He also disclosed that eight kidnapped victims were rescued and two vehicles were recovered during the operation.

All rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further care and support, he added.

“Troops continue to dominate the general area, denying terrorists freedom of action and sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating across the theatre,” Danja added.
