Two suspects have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly murdering a 33-year-old woman and dumping her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

Police said the suspects allegedly killed the woman on March 13 after luring her to their residence under the pretence of seeking assistance.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.

He said the case began on March 13, 2026, when the deceased’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The Anambra State Police Command has successfully uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old woman and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime in Oraifite.

“The suspects, all males, include Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26 years old, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20 years old, respectively.

“The case originated on March 13, 2026, when the deceased’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The following day, March 14, 2026, the lifeless body of an unidentified female was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The deceased’s father later identified the body as that of his missing daughter.

“Following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation, the operatives, leveraging intelligence and digital forensic leads through sustained efforts, eventually arrested the two suspects on June 6, 2026,” the statement read.

Ikenga said the principal suspect, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, confessed during interrogation.

According to police, he claimed he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and was unaware that she was married.

The suspect further alleged that after a disagreement with the woman’s husband, he developed a strange illness that affected his eyesight and, out of resentment, planned the attack.

Police said he confessed to luring the deceased to his residence on March 13 under the guise of seeking help because of his illness.

Investigators alleged that he and the second suspect attacked the woman with a machete, killing her before disposing of her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, in the early hours of the following day.

Ikenga said both suspects had admitted their involvement and would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended detectives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
