Police in Delta State have arrested four suspects linked to a gun-running syndicate following an investigation into a Beretta pistol recovered at a park in Effurun last month, April, an operation that led to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man by officers.
The suspects, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike, were arrested in Bayelsa and Imo states, according to a press briefing by Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi on Monday.
The investigation followed the recovery of the pistol at a park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.
The case is linked to the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, a 28-year-old plumber and aspiring musician from Effurun.
Ogidi was shot and killed on April 26, 2026, in an incident widely viewed as an extrajudicial killing by police.
A friend had reportedly asked Ogidi to help collect a package at Effurun Main Park on Sapele Road. Police intercepted him.
Video footage that circulated online showed Ogidi restrained, seated on the ground with his hands tied behind his back, pleading: “Officers, abeg, I go tell you everything. Na my friend deceive me. E dey Sapele. I go carry you go the place.”

Despite being subdued, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman, a former Special Anti-Robbery Squad officer, allegedly shot him at close range. Ogidi died from his injuries.
Police arrested the first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, in Bayelsa on May 4, 2026, alongside his friend and roommate whose phone he allegedly used to purchase the gun.
Chukwuemeka revealed during interrogation that he bought the gun from Amadi Princewill for 290,000 naira and sold it to one Desmond, who is still at large, for 380,000 naira, police said.
Desmond allegedly sent the gun to Effurun and contacted Ogidi to collect it and send it to Sapele, according to police.
Following Chukwuemeka’s confession, police traced and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15, 2026.
Princewill told investigators that he bought the gun from Amadi Felix for 200,000 naira.
Police subsequently arrested Amadi Felix in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026. All four suspects are members of the Black Axe confraternity, Oyeniyi said.
They will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, he added, noting that a manhunt for other suspects, including Desmond, is still ongoing.
