Venezuela, Dominican Republic Restore Ties

Venezuela and the Dominican Republic agreed Sunday to establish a roadmap for restoring full diplomatic relations two years after severing ties over disputing Nicolás Maduro’s 2024 election claim.

The Venezuelan foreign ministry announced that the agreement focuses on gradual normalisation to strengthen institutional communication channels between the two nations.

The reconciliation comes after U.S. forces removed Maduro from power in January, allowing Acting President Delcy Rodriguez to take office and begin ending the nation’s diplomatic isolation.

Caracas had cut ties with Santo Domingo, Peru, and Chile in 2024 after they questioned the fraudulent election results.

Venezuela has recently moved to restore consular services, direct flights, and formal diplomatic ties with all three Latin American nations.
