The White House has thrown its support behind England to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the United States’ exit from the tournament.

Andrew Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s representative on World Cup matters, said England would be a worthy champion after the co-hosts were eliminated from the competition.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Giuliani said England’s triumph would make for a compelling story, noting that if the United States could not win the tournament during its 250th anniversary celebrations, seeing England lift the trophy would be a fitting alternative.

He also expressed confidence in England’s chances, describing the Three Lions as one of the strongest teams remaining in the competition.

“If the United States can’t win on our 250th birthday, then a great storyline would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations.

“It’s been 60 years of hurt, I gather, for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them if they won the tournament.

“I do absolutely think England can go all the way. They are one of the top teams left now, ”Giuliani said.

Giuliani revealed that Trump had been following the performances of England captain Harry Kane, whom he described as one of the players capable of leading the team to World Cup glory.

He also recalled playing golf with Trump and former England captain Wayne Rooney, saying the US president has a keen interest in football.

His comments came after Kane disclosed that he had played golf with Trump in Florida in late 2024. The England captain described the experience as surreal and praised the US president’s golfing skills, saying he hoped to be playing as well at Trump’s age.

England remain in contention for their first World Cup title since 1966 and will face defending champions Argentina in Wednesday’s semi-final at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Thomas Tuchel’s side reached the last four with a 2-1 victory over Norway, while Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 to secure a place in the semi-finals.

The winner of the tie will face either France or Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final.
