The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the Vice-Presidential candidate alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election, following what the party described as extensive consultations across its national structures.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Leadership, the ADC said the decision came after engagements with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from all geopolitical zones. The party noted that Amaechi’s selection was also influenced by his strong performance in the party’s presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up and attracted significant support from delegates nationwide.
According to the statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the pairing of Atiku and Amaechi represents “more than a political alliance,” but rather “the coming together of two tested statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.”
Amaechi’s political career, the party added, spans key arms of government and levels of administration. He served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, completed two terms as Governor of Rivers State, and later served as Minister of Transportation, where he led major rail and transport infrastructure reforms.

The ADC emphasised that few political figures possess such cross-sector experience, arguing that his background would strengthen the delivery of governance from the outset of the proposed administration. It also highlighted his political influence across the South-South and wider southern region, as well as his record of coalition-building across ethnic and regional divides.
The party further stated that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket is positioned as a “national partnership” aimed at addressing economic decline, insecurity, unemployment, and widening social discontent. It described the joint candidacy as one that “bridges regions, generations, and political traditions,” while projecting competence and stability.
With the announcement, the ADC said it is seeking to consolidate its coalition base and present what it termed a credible alternative for national leadership ahead of 2027, calling on party members, civil society actors, youth groups, and other stakeholders to support the ticket.
The party expressed confidence that the alliance will “inspire hope” and deliver “a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.”
