President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to head the Directorate of Air Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) 2027 presidential campaign.

Keyamo’s appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood.

Under the arrangement, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Olubunmi Kuku, will serve as Deputy Director I, while Farouk Ahmed Umar will be Deputy Director II.

The directorate will coordinate air transportation and logistics for the APC’s nationwide campaign, including travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and personnel.

It is expected to work with other campaign structures to plan movements across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones while complying with aviation regulations and electoral laws.

The statement said Keyamo’s experience as aviation minister would support the directorate’s coordination of the campaign’s air-mobilisation requirements.

It added that Kuku and Umar would bring aviation-sector leadership and technical expertise to the directorate.

According to the statement, air transportation would be particularly important to the campaign because of the number of locations campaign officials are expected to cover within tight schedules.

The directorate will also be responsible for structured planning, scheduling and coordination with relevant stakeholders to support campaign activities.

The statement stressed that campaign-related aviation arrangements would be kept separate from official government functions and conducted through authorised channels.

“His familiarity with the operational demands of the aviation industry is expected to provide useful leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning.

“The appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar as Deputy Directors also brings aviation-sector leadership and technical experience into the directorate, strengthening its capacity to address the planning and coordination demands associated with nationwide campaign movements.

“Air transportation is an important component of national campaign logistics, particularly where campaign leaders and officials are required to cover multiple locations within compressed schedules.

“The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to support the broader campaign organisation through structured planning, coordination with relevant stakeholders, efficient scheduling and appropriate logistical arrangements.

“Its effectiveness will depend on collaboration with other campaign directorates, clear operational procedures and strict compliance with aviation safety requirements and all applicable laws governing political campaigns.

“The directorate’s activities will also be expected to maintain a clear distinction between campaign operations and official government functions, ensuring that campaign-related arrangements are undertaken through properly authorised channels”, the statement read.

Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign is being organised through the APC Presidential Campaign Council, with various directorates assigned to coordinate preparations for the presidential election.
