Manuel Akanji remains hopeful that Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Everton could spark a revival, despite the team’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League.
Thursday’s result left the defending champions with just one win in 13 matches across all competitions since October, leaving them 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
“It felt like a frustrating afternoon, but when you compare it to the other matches, we played really well from start to finish,” said Swiss defender Akanji.
“We tried to score, we tried to play attacking football, but Everton scored out of nowhere. We did enough to win, but it just didn’t go our way.”
Next up, City face a struggling Leicester side on Sunday.
“We need to keep working, and our next opportunity is in a few days. There’s nothing else we can do right now,” Akanji added. “I still believe we will get back to the level we’ve been at. It will come, sooner or later.”
