Nigeria: Aba Power Implements 50% Electricity Tariff Hike

Aba Power Limited Electric, an electricity distribution company in Abia State, has raised its electricity tariffs by over 50%, effective January 1, 2025. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the increase after the company’s application on December 11, 2024.

Under the new structure, Band A and B feeders will pay between N219.70 and N241.45 per kilowatt-hour, up from N99/kWh. Band C feeders will pay between N145 and N205/kWh.

While the company claims the adjustment is necessary to maintain service quality, customers expressed concerns over the financial strain due to rising inflation and economic instability.
