Mohamed Salah was awarded the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year for the third time on Friday after leading Liverpool to a record-tying 20th English title.
Salah claimed the honour by netting 28 goals and providing 18 assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
The Egyptian forward set a new record for the most goal contributions in a 38-match Premier League season as Arne Slot’s team secured their first title since 2020.
Salah garnered nearly 90 per cent of the votes from football writers, achieving the largest winning margin in this century.
Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk finished in second place, followed by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in third and Arsenal’s Declan Rice in fourth.
Having previously won this award in 2017-18 and 2021-22, Salah is now on par with former Arsenal star Thierry Henry as the only players to win the accolade three times.
At 32 years old, Salah recently quashed rumours about his future by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.
Salah’s choice to remain with Liverpool positions them as favourites to claim a record 21st title next season as they aim to surpass Manchester United as England’s most successful top-flight club.
Alessia Russo became the second Arsenal player to win the women’s award, surpassing last year’s recipient Khadija Shaw.
