Nigerian Startup Tespire Receives Funding to Advance Health Innovation

Nigerian tech startup Tespire has received fresh funding from Alternative Bank to scale up its innovative health research initiative, Asibiti, aimed at tackling critical inefficiencies within Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Tespire was established in Northern Nigeria in 2022 by Abdulkadir Suleiman Lapai and Umar Madugu, initially focusing on providing digital infrastructure—such as internet access and tablets—to support administrative operations in schools. Following early success and an undisclosed pre-seed funding round last year, the company has broadened its scope to include healthcare innovation.

In a strategic move last year, Tespire signed a global Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alternative Bank, laying the groundwork for deeper collaboration. That partnership has now yielded direct investment into the startup’s Asibiti project, which is designed to improve healthcare management systems.

After successful pilot trials in public hospitals across Niger State—where early feedback indicated a strong appetite for digital transformation—Tespire developed the Asibiti Box, a smart device embedded with internet access and integrated management tools. The Asibiti Box streamlines hospital operations and enhances data handling in healthcare facilities.

The new funding will support the project’s day-to-day operations, and Tespire plans to expand Asibiti to private hospitals. The startup also intends to introduce new features to facilitate this next phase of deployment.
