Policemen deployed to quell a protest over the demolition of houses have shot two natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), identified as Sunday Danjuma and [Name Missing], in the Karsana community of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Chairman of the Karsana community, Zakari Baba, confirmed the incident to our reporter, adding that the police opened fire when the residents, whose houses had been demolished, attempted to force their way into the community.
News Central learnt that pandemonium started around 10 a.m. when policemen at the main gate of the community barred natives from entering the village to evacuate their property.

“In fact, as I speak, two of the natives that sustained bullet wounds are currently receiving treatment at Gwagwa health centre,” he said.
According to the Commissioner for the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) representing the FCT, Hon. Musa Dikko, two natives of Karsana community sustained bullet wounds after the police tried to disperse the residents.
He said he was able to visit the community to calm tensions, disclosing that he had summoned the developer to the commission’s office to explain who gave the directive for the demolition.
“Actually, I led some of my officials to the community when I received a distress call that two natives of Karsana community were shot. And as I speak, we have been able to douse tension while we have also invited the developer to come to our office so that he will explain on whose directive he carried out the demolition,” he said.
Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, neither answered calls nor responded to a text message sent to her over the development.
On Saturday, Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, fumed over the demolition, which also affected the palace of the village chief, Yahaya Barde.
Maikalangu, while addressing newsmen, threatened to sue the developer.
