Real Madrid have confirmed that England full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a hamstring injury during their Champions League victory over Marseille.
The former Liverpool defender was forced off after just four minutes of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win, which marked the Spanish side’s opening match of the competition. Despite being reduced to 10 men after Dani Carvajal, who replaced Alexander-Arnold, was sent off with 18 minutes remaining, Real held on to secure the victory.

“After the tests conducted today on our player Trent Alexander-Arnold by Real Madrid‘s medical service, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left leg,” the club said in an official statement on Wednesday.
Local reports suggest the 25-year-old could be sidelined for around three weeks. He joined the club over the summer to provide competition for Carvajal, who spent much of last season out injured.
With both right-backs now unavailable, Real will be without them for their second Champions League group-stage fixture against Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan on 30 September.
