The Lagos State Government, working with the Federal Ministry of Works, has announced plans to repair damaged sections of the Apongbon Bridge and adjoining service lanes in Lagos.

The repairs will affect the ramp and service lane linking Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge, and also parts of the bridge’s inbound and outbound lanes.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the work will begin on Thursday, February 5, and is expected to last six weeks, ending on March 19, 2026.

Osiyemi said sections of the affected roads will be temporarily closed to traffic to allow the repairs to be carried out safely.

“To ensure the safety of road users and facilitate smooth execution of the works, sections of the affected roads will be temporarily closed to traffic,” Osiyemi stated.

Motorists heading inbound to Apongbon from Inner Marina are advised to divert through the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout, Adeniji Adele Road and Ebute Ero.

Traffic coming from Tafawa Balewa Square, Victoria Island and the Third Mainland Bridge should connect directly to Apongbon Bridge and continue to Eko Bridge.

For outbound traffic from Eko Bridge to Inner Marina, motorists are advised to use the Ebute Ero ramp and Adeniji Adele Road.

Vehicles heading towards Outer Marina, Victoria Island, and the Third Mainland Bridge will maintain movement on the Apongbon Bridge.

During repairs on the main carriageway, motorists heading to Outer Marina, CMS, Victoria Island and the Third Mainland Bridge should divert via the Ebute Ero ramp and Leventis, while those going to Inner Marina should use the Chapel Street ramp.

Osiyemi urged road users to be patient and follow traffic diversions, noting that traffic officers will be on ground to manage traffic flow and reduce inconvenience.

He said the temporary closures are necessary to ensure the successful completion of the repair works.
